Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). In the following two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington reporter. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent by 1988. She was made Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also host of the show. Mitchell was a part of the panel at the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering in the White House in 1981-1988, in both the Reagan presidency. Mitchell reported on a variety of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran Contra scandal, budget tax reforms and arms control. Mitchell travelled with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan several times to attend summits and discuss matters like the Iran Contra controversy.
